Top Gear co-host Chris Evans is stepping down from his role on the show after just a season.
Evans announced the news on twitter Monday, saying that whilst he gave it his all, still everything was not on the right track.
Evans was tapped, alongside former Friends star Matt LeBlanc, to take the reins of the show after Jeremy Clarkson’s high profile resignation following a physical altercation with a producer.
But the show has plummeted since, seeing record low ratings amidst reports of tension between Evans and LeBlanc.
“Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough. The team are beyond brilliant. I wish them all the best” he tweeted.
LeBlanc – who played Joey Tribbiani on the 90’s and early 00’s sitcom ‘Friends’ – and the other co-presenters are said to be in talks with the BBC to produce the next season of the revamped show.
