BNI Says Panelists Who Threatened to Kill Judges Are ‘Incapable of Carrying Out Threat’

BNIThe Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) has said there is no cause for alarm as its preliminary investigation into threats on the lives of Judges by two radio panelists indicates that the panelists are incapable of carrying out threats.
Though such harsh words would be deemed a threat by many, in law, when a person who mounts a threat is incapable of carrying it out—it makes the threat useless, and no criminal offence can be said to have been committed.
A statement from the Communication Ministry says during interrogation by the bureau, the two panelists – Alistair Nelson and Godwin Gunn – admitted making the threats which they describe as regrettable and unfortunate.
“Further checks by the BNI have however established that the suspects were incapable of carrying out their pronouncements but did so in a show of needless bravado,” the BNI statement read.
The two panelists on a pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) local language radio station-Montie Fm vowed to “finish” Supreme Court judges who would somewhat impede against the works of the EC by certain rulings ordering a structuring of the electoral register.
Currently, the two together with the management of the radio station and the show’s host-Mugabe have been cited for contempt by the Supreme Court.
And beyond contempt, it doesn’t seem any criminal charges would be brought against them.
