Tic Tac Sues Melcom To The Tune Of Half A Billion Cedis For Breach Of Contract

Legendary hiplife singer Tic Tac has reporedly dragged one of the largest retail store chains in the country to court for breaching a deal they had.
In a filing before the Accra High Court, Tic Tac claims a deal he had with Melcom some years ago had long expired, but that they were still using his image and likeness to promote their brand.
The musician thus wants damages to the tune of Ghc 500,000 from the company, and an order from the court to stop them from utilising his likeness in the absence of a valid contract.
In court documents filed by his lawyer Gary Nimako at the High Court Thursday, Tic Tac said he had a contract with Melcom from 2009 till 2011 as a brand ambassador, a deal that expired on May 31, 2011.
Yet the singer said as recently as May this year, he spotted a billboard around Tema sporting his image promoting the Melcom brand. He thus took shots of the billboard as evidence, and then directed his attorney to write to Melcom, asking them to remove the billboards and compensate him for the continued use of his image.
According to him, whilst Melcom admitted forgetting to bring down the billboards, they refused to pay any compensation, leading the artist to seek recourse in the law court.
