Ghana’s proud ‘station of the nation’ has turned Ghana into a laughingstock abroad, according to comedienne Afia Schwarzenegger.
The state broadcaster recently stunned the whole country when they fell for the cheapest of tricks, declaring that former South African President Thabo Mbeki had died based on nothing more than a fake news report.
We broke that story here on GhanaCelebrities.Com and wondered how the national broadcaster could embarrass itself, and us, with such an amateurish mistake. And the repercussions for the mistake are just beginning.
According to Afia Schwarzenegger, who has spent a lot of time in South Africa recently, the story has made us the butt of jokes in the country.
In a post on Facebook Friday, she called on the state broadcaster to stop with the embarrassment of its citizens.. She wrote…

As for GTV, the least said the better…so now that we all know fmr Prez Thabo Mbeki is alive what should we do to you , the nation’s number 1 fake news station??
You need to see how south Africans are laughing at Ghanaians…Does GTV uses Internet in their office at all;if so what do they use it for..Facebook or Twitter ..
The last time I checked Dede Ayew was referred to as a musician called Ayitey powers by GTV. ..why why, why?
Enough of your embarrassments

The worst part of all this is the silence on the issue from Gtv, the rest of the national media, and even from regulatory bodies. It’s like nothing even happened at all.
