Two female athletes at the ongoing Olympic Games in Rio have captured the imagination of the entire world with a display of incredible sportsmanship – with almost everyone saying they ’embody the Olympic spirit’
New Zealand athlete Nikki Hamblin and her American counterpart Abbey D’Agostino have become the toast of the world after the latter helped the former get back to her feet after she fell during their 5,000m heat in the Olympic Games.
Hamblin actually tripped and fell during the race, and accidentally tripped D’Agostino as well. However, instead of continuing the tough race, she decided to help up her rival who had – albeit accidentally – just messed up her race.
D’Agostino twisted her right knee in her fall, and finished dead last, limping. Hamblin finished second to last, crossing the line after 16m43s.
However, it seems her goodwill paid off in the end – both ladies have been given passes into the final after their respective teams protested.
