The eventual fate of two very close friends was sealed in a way neither of them had possibly envisioned, when they both died over the most trivial of disputes.
The two friends, known as Obolo and Kennedy, were both residents of Asuadee, a farming community in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
The two friends got involved in an altercation over the payment of 50p, which led to the death of one. The other one, distraught, was later found dead – possibly having committed suicide.
An eyewitness to the event, Augustine Apau, narrated what took place the incident commenced with the two friends walking when they chanced upon a corn seller, Sarah, who was the sister of Kennedy.
Obolo took one of the corn’s Sarah was selling and ate it, but then held back on paying the 50p cost of the corn.
This led to Kennedy demanding that Obolo pay his sister the money, which is what led to their exchange of blows.
During the exchange of fisticuffs, Obolo suddenly collapsed. He was revived by splashing water on him, and rushed to the hospital – but was declared dead on arrival.
Kennedy, upon hearing of the news of Obolo’s death, reportedly vanished from the town. He was found the following morning in a nearby bush, suspected of having committed suicide.
