Black Stars Take On Uganda Friday In Maiden 2018 World Cup Qualifier

black-stars-
The Black Stars of Ghana are in action later today against the Cranes of Uganda as they kick off their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign with a must win game.
The Stars have made appearances at each of the last three world cups since reaching their maiden finals in 2006, and with a challenging group containing 7 times African Champions Egypt, need to kick off with a bang as a long campaign lies ahead.
Coach Avram Grant has named a competitive side for the game, with captain Asamoah Gyan fit and ready to lead the line and in good form for his UAE side. Injury keeps out Kwadwo Asamoah and vice captain Andre Ayew, but the team has enough quality in the middle to compensate for their loss.
Uganda would be considered the minnows in the group but having qualified for Afcon 2017 – their first qualification since losing the 1978 final to Ghana – they come in with massive confidence and would be interested in breaking up Ghana’s party.
“I don’t think it will be an easy game but our target is same, to win and do everything to be in Russia,” Ghana coach Avram Grant said in his pre match presser.
“We are playing against a very strong side but we have the quality to overcome them. The most important thing is we finish first in the group,” he added.
The game kicks off at 15:30 GMT in Tamale.
