The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces, Colonel Aggrey Quarshie, has debunked claims that a military officer is under investigation for drinking Kalyppo, instead noting that the investigation is for breach of the army’s code of conduct.
Reports indicated that Private Osei Owusu was under investigation after a picture of him circulating showed him sipping the local juice made popular by Nana Addo – which his supporters have flooded social media with over the past couple of weeks – in an apparent act of support of the NPP Presidential nominee.
Speaking on Ultimate Fm, Colonel Quarshie sought to correct the impression that he was being investigated for sipping kalyppo, instead noting that the offence was his circulating the photo, taken in an army uniform, without permission.
“No one is being investigated for drinking Kalyppo…….No one is allowed to pass something to a third party without authority. The officer publicised himself and the institution does not encourage that. You called me because you saw his picture widely circulated”, he said.
“You can take pictures with your uniform but if you give it to the wrong person is an offence. If you take a picture and post it on Facebook it is an offence. Any picture that will bring the name of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) into disrepute, will be investigated”
Colonel Quarshie added that the investigation has been concluded and the soldier is back to post, although he refused to divulge the results of the investigation.
