An Italian Catholic priest claims the recent spate of earthquakes that has hit the country are a punishment from God for the legalisation of gay marriage in the headquarters of the world’s largest Christian denomination.
Father Giovanni Cavalcoli claims the earthquakes ravaging the country in recent days are as a result of ‘divine punishment’, being handed down to the country for destroying the sanctity of marriage by allowing the coupling of homos*xual couples.
Three earthquakes have hit in the country within the past month, killing hundreds and displacing thousands. The third, which hit last weekend, was a 6.6 magnitude quake which was the most powerful to hit the earthquake prone country in 36 years.
But whilst human beings with brains in their heads knows exactly what causes earthquakes, all knowing Father Cavalcoli claims the recent passage of legislation to allow gays in the country to have civil unions has led to the earthquakes; God’s vengeful punishment for Italy forsaking him.
The quakes, he told a radio station, was God’s divine punishment for “the offence to the family and the dignity of marriage, in particular through civil unions”.
The Vatican, to their credit, quickly distanced themselves from Cavalcoli’s comments, asking fpr the forgiveness of quake victims the priest’s comments and to realise that they have the “solidarity and support” of Pope Francis.
Just as well, otherwise I’ll have been forced to point out that when some of the church’s priests were systematically raping children and were being protected from prosecution by the church, God sat idly by – but somehow he’s so disgusted by gay marriage he sent earthquakes.
