Lady Gaga labelled Selena Gomez “the biggest rock star of the night” after her brave speech at the American Music Awards on Sunday.
The popstar was not expected to attend the ceremony in Los Angeles and so her arrival on the red carpet was a shock to many, marking her first public appearance since she abandoned her world tour this summer (16) and reportedly checked into rehab to focus on her struggle with autoimmune disorder lupus.
“I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,” she said during her AMAs speech. “I kept it all together enough to where I’d never let you (fans) down, but I kept it too much together, to where I let myself down.
“All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love… If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken.”
Following Selena’s emotional speech, stars flocked to social media to lavish praise on the 24-year-old singer.
Gaga shared a snap of herself with Selena on her Instagram page, writing:
“So dope I got to hang with the biggest rockstar of the night.(Ya,know besides Sting and Green Day) …the girl with the biggest prize of all a BIG Heart that she shares with the world.”
