Veteran actress Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu has lashed out at the writing of Ghanaian female characters by mostly male writers, saying it portrayed them in mostly unfavourable lights.
Akorfa, who has been a mainstay in Ghanaian movies for decades now, told Joy News the lack of female screenwriters have led to a system where most female characters are portrayed in a bad light.
“I want to see more female writers and more female producers in the system. I don’t like the way men portray us in their movies,”she said, going on to note females are usually stereotyped in movies as gossips and husband snatchers.
Akorfa called for more women to step up to the plate and tell their own stories rather than always leaving it to the men.
