The flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, has called on voting day, December 7, to be declared a national holiday.
According to the now disqualified Presidential candidate, making the day a holiday would enable workers and even students to be able to vote on the day without worrying about their professions.
The question about whether election day should be made a holiday is a long time debate which is never resolved, with supporters saying it would lead to increased turnout and mass participation in the polls. Critics say it could lead to idle time for trouble makers to influence the polls.
For Akua Donkor, holding a press conference in Accra Monday, it is a policy that should be enacted, starting from tomorrow, December 7.
