With all the news going around of NDC functionaries and supporters being attacked by irate supporters of the NPP, any potential news of such attacks is being treated with the utmost seriousness by the police.
Which is why it’s quite unfortunate that one such person decided to treat the issue with contempt and issue a false alarm to police.
Shirley Naana Ampem was the Parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the just ended elections in Lower West Akim, losing in her bid for Parliament.
Police in Asamankese where she is based received some inaccurate reports that NDC supporters had been attacked by those of the NPP, and that the candidate’s house had also come under attack.
The police said they received a call from her house to come immediately as they were under siege, but arrived only to find Ampem undergoing a pedicure.

“This was the allegation that came to my office, we swiftly went there and saw that it was not true. It was just about two or three people who were passing by the house of the defeated Parliamentary candidate of the NDC, and some of the guys in the house wanted to confront them. They fabricated a story that the NPP people came and attacked them. That was not true.” Asamankese District Police Commander, DSP Anane Appiah said.
He continued: “It was the candidate who while in her room called me that some people had come to attack them. So we quickly went there less than five minutes and we saw that she who called was in her room making pedicure. Then I said you just rang me that some people are attacking you and you are in your room making pedicure. Then she said some of her boys came and gave her that information.”
Unlike this hoax from Shirley Ampem, some NDC functionaries have come under attacks from NPP supporters who feel emboldened by their win to carry out insane acts.
