Sony Music has rendered an apology to Britney Spears after their official account declared the singer dead, but they had been hacked at the time.
The company’s official account on the microblogging site declared ‘Britney Spears is dead by accident’, alarming fans all over the world.
‘We will tell you more soon’, the message continued, before an ‘RIP’ tweet also followed.
But the company soon issued an apology after regaining control of the account, noting they had been hacked by the same company behind hacks of Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and other public figures earlier in the year.
“The twitter was hacked and the tweets are now deleted. Britney Spears is alive and well.” a spokesperson said.
A rep for the singer denied she was dead, before Britney posted her own defiant tweet to show she was alive and kicking.
