The Prof. Dora Edu-Buandoh Committee, which has set up the increment of salary for Article 71 office holders which affects the President, has also set the emoluments and entitlements due President Mahama once he leaves office.
The Presidential salary for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as set by the Commission, would be Ghc 22,809 once he assumes office, an increase over the previous figure being received by President Mahama.
The President, however, would also receive the increase retrospectively from 2013 till date.
In terms of entitlements for the outgoing leader, he would receive 40% of the Presidential salary in his retirement – a figure around Ghc 9,000. Not just that – Mahama is entitled to the following perks – although a house built and maintained by the state has been ruled out…
– state-provided staff of not more than four (4)people.
– a furnished and up-to-date office and communication equipment.
– Other staff including a cook, steward, gardener and two security persons.
– Two vehicles for security and a chauffeur. maintained and comprehensively insured by the State and changed every four years for life.
– Medical and dental services for himself and his wife.
– He would be permitted use of the “presidential jet where available and appropriate.”
– two official overseas trips annually, paid for himself, his wife and two security personnell.
