President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated that public service is not an avenue for making money and that those interested in that should head for the private sector.

Nana Addo passed the remarks during his inauguration speech at the Black Star Square in Accra.

Corruption and looting of the public purse has been an issue that has dogged many Ghanaian administrations, and it is one of the charges the NPP successfully lobbed against the NDC during campaigning. To that end, Nana Addo has warned that public service should be seen as just service and not a money making avenue.

“I shall protect the public purse by insisting on value for money in all transactions…Public service is just that; it is not an avenue for making money,” the President said.

“The change we have voted for has to start with each individual. I ask you to be responsible citizens.

“It is time to define what being a Ghanaian ought to mean. Being a Ghanaian must mean you sign up to a definable code of conduct,” he added.
