A petition has been started by a concerned Ghanaian to place pressure on President Nana Addo Danwka Akufo-Addo to not grant approval of the request by former President Mahama for his current official residence to be handed to him as his retirement home.

The bungalow in Cantonments where the former leader resides was the official residence for the nation’s vice Presidents, but Mahama continued to reside there when he ascended from being Veep to commander in chief, and is now requesting the residence be handed to him as a retirement home.

There is currently confusion over whether the President has approved the request or not, despite reports Monday night that he has. Irrespective of that, Mawuli Biaku has started a change.org petition beseeching Nana Addo not to approve Mahama’s use of the facility.

“The last-minute actions by the outgoing Parliament of Ghana to alter the terms of former President Mahama’s retirement benefits in order to allow him to retain the vice- presidential building he resides in is unacceptable to the broad masses of the Ghanaian people.  We urge the new NPP government to repeal this action by reversing this unwarranted giveaway of state property.” the petition reads.

The petition is expected to be delivered to the President for his consideration. It currently has 738 signatories (as at this writing).
