Social media commentator and comedienne Afia Schwarzenegger has taken to her Facebook page to offer pro bono advise on marriage to all her fans and anyone interested.

According to the mother of three, no one should subject themselves to expensive weddings in a bid to please society.

She wrote:

“After reading about 12 of the same messages…let me reply yall here.

Marriage is not a competition, neither is it a point proving action…it is a lifetime decision to stick together with someone thru thick and thin.

I am going to take you thru some easy steps that will make your wedding/marriage ceremony stress free.

1. CREATE YOUR THEME. ..except someone give me a manual for wedding I think your wedding is to make you happy not miserable…it must fit in your budget, the fact that so so and so had this on their wedding doesn’t necessarily means you should do the same…people are breaking up relationships becos the guy is not ready to spend his hard earn money on nonsense and i say nonsense becos who on earth after her wedding goes to a party/funeral/redcarpets wearing her wedding gown??? So why spend thousands of dollars/cedis on??

I also want to ask everyone but the Akans….why Kente???Every Ghanaian bride is wearing kente as if it is a wedding uniform, there are a lot of pretty fabrics that are more expensive/classier than kente,
We also have our local prints;very affordable that speaks volume than Kente..so why is every bride wearing Kente…please think out of the box and wow your man with intelligence..”

    • On the contrary Julie, I dont see her point on the Kente theme. We need to sell our culture. My dear, I didnt know how much other countries envied our kente till I travelled out of Ghana and made friends outside my culture especially Nigerians. Their love for kente is enormous. I was very shocked. Since then, I took a particular close to nigerian music vids and Tiwa especially has kente themes in her vids. We have to sell it oooo. I suggest we do it even more. Have u seen an igbo wedding? The theme is always the same and to me that is culture. Kente makes us unique as Ghanaians. All her other points are not quite bad mmom. But lemme ask, Afia, is that why u wore that crown on your head during your wedding? It was not not not.

      • Yeah cool, but I’m not a fan of traditional kente but the white and gold and other modified versions of it is nice. I prefer towel, ntoma and lace but some kente’s are real nice. I’m not saying don’t wear it or don’t show off your culture but when women are wearing the same kente to their weddings then it gets played out.
