The Minister-designate for the Energy Ministry, Boakye Agyarko, has reassured Ghanaians that a plan exists for the reduction of electricity tariffs, and that it would be implemented once President Nana Akufo-Addo assents to it.
Boakye Agyarko was speaking at his vetting in front of Parliament’s Appointments Committee when he made the pledge.
According to Agyarko, a tariff reduction document has been presented to the President which has looked at the current system and proposed some cuts – he said the cuts would go through if Nana Addo assents.
The President addressed electricity tariffs as one of his main issues during campaigning, promising to reduce them once he gets into office. There has been a spike in utility fares across board the past few years.
