President Nana Akufo Addo

Every truthful NPP supporter will concede without hesitation that Ghana at 50 was a mess–the birthday celebration cost the nation about US$ 75 Million Dollars when we didn’t have half of that in our national coffers.

In fact, we borrowed that much money to through a birthday party and months later, we were still looking for monies way lesser than that to fight malaria and build schools.

History does not seem to have taught us any good lesson as Ghana is set to celebrate another birthday, this time, Ghana at 60.

President Nana Akufo Addo will today, Thursday 26 January inaugurate a committee to plan the Ghana at 60 independence anniversary celebration.

Yes, we are setting up a committee of people to be paid with monies we do not have to throw a birthday party with monies we do not have.

Also, considering the fact that even at 60 years we do not have a stable electricity supply, good drinking water and unemployment is at the roof, what are we going to spend millions of dollars to celebrate?

The Ghana at 60 committee is expected to see to it that every activity marked for the celebrations are properly planned and executed.

Of course, this is Ghana, we mostly do not have priorities…

This is to take place in Ghana when last year, Tanzanian President-John Magufuli after just three weeks in office ordered the cancellation of the country’s 2016 Independence Day celebrations “in a move aimed at cutting down unnecessary public expenditure.”
