GhanaCelebrities.Com reported weeks ago on a planned merger between Airtel and Tigo in Ghana to attempt to create a super network to take on the hegemony of MTN.

Whilst both companies – Bharti Airtel and Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Airtel and Tigo respectively – came out to deny any deal was in the making, we now have confirmation that the deal has actually happened.

The two companies announced the merger today (Friday), with both companies expected to hold equal sway in the governance of the new behemoth – which immediately becomes the second largest network in the country with a combined user base of roughly 10m.
