Nigeria’s Muhamadu Buhari has returned back home after spending seven weeks in the UK on ‘medical leave’.

Buhari was initially expected to spend a few days in the UK on leave, but it grew into an extended stay as his health failed to improve.

After close to two months abroad, Buhari returned earlier today (Friday), touching down in Northern Nigeria from London.

Buhari spoke to political leaders assembled for his return, announcing that his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo, who has been running the country in his absence, would remain in charge temporarily.

Buhari said he’s much better now, but that he came towards the weekend “so that the vice-president will continue and I will continue to rest”.

Buhari received the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, to his Abuja House residence in London Thursday. He had met with several dignitaries from the location during his seven week UK stay.
