Samia Nkrumah, daughter of the first President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, has called for the name of the nation’s only international airport to be changed.
According to her, the Kotoka International Airport is named after a treasonous general who masterminded the illegal removal of her father from office and thus should not be receiving such an accolade.
Samia was speaking in an interview on Radio Gold when she made the call.
Lt General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka was one of the masterminds of the February 1966 coup, which removed the Osagyefo from office, although General Ankrah became head of state after. He was killed a year later in another coup attempt near the airport, which led to it being named in his honour.
