KKD Rape Saga Was The Lowest Point Of My Life – KOD

2 min

Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD, has opened up on the troubling period of a few years ago when his friend KKD was accused of rape, describing it as the lowest point of his life.

KOD spoke to Nii Kpakpo Thompson about that time and narrated several never before revealed pieces of info about that extraordinary saga.

Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD), at the time, was accused by an 18 year old girl, Ewurama Effe, of raping her at the African Regent Hotel. KKD denied he had raped the girl, insisting the s*x they had was consensual.

KOD was dragged into the mess when it emerged he had been with KKD at the time and had occupied Ewuarama’s friend whilst she went off with KKD for their tryst.

He said it was the ‘lowest low in my life’, especially since he didn’t defend KKD, which he felt he should have.

That strained their relationship, he said – but they reconciled after his (KOD’s) father died.

“When my father died, KKD came home. And it was at a time I could feel things were not okay between KKD and myself. I spoke to him in Twi [If you are here let me use the opportunity to apologise to you]. He felt that I should have been in court or sitting on a show like this one in his defence but my lawyers had talked to me. My lawyers said that where the act took place I was not there. And he had conceded that he had consensual sex with the young lady. He had spoken for himself, what else was I going to say?” he said.

“I have now buried this issue like my father, it’s been the lowest low in my life,”

He also revealed that former President Rawlings even inquired into the issue after it happened.

“When it happened President Rawlings told me that he thinks that being everything that I am I didn’t have to be quiet about it and I have to go out and talk about the facts of the matter because he was very concerned, he was very concerned, he had an interest in that case. And am like a son… so to make sure am doing the right thing, he called me and wanted to know the truth and I told him..”
