Miss World Organization held a press summit to announce China as the next host of the world’s most popular pageantry show and this is not a good news to Ghana, as the Presidency in the past month expressed plans of the Ghana 60 @ Committee to lobby to host the event.
John Abu Jinapor, Deputy chief of Staff and Vice Chairperson of the Ghana @ 60 Committee, made the announcement at the official launch of Miss Ghana @ 60.
The reasoning was to commemorate Ghana’s 60th Independence celebrations with an international multicultural platform to showcase Ghana as the Miss Ghana pageant marks its own 60th anniversary.

Speaking at the Miss World 2017 Press Conference at Hilton Shekou Shenzhen, Julia Morley, Chairman and CEO of Miss World Organisation said: “I am so pleased to be coming to China to work alongside the dynamic and brilliant team of New Silk Road”. NSR – a leading entity in the Chinese Fashion and Culture Industry who will be who will be hosting partners to the Miss 67th edition.
This will make it the 8th time China is hosting the event. No African country has ever hosted the event with the exception of South Africa, which has hosted it 7 times. Nigeria was set to host in 2002 but a national tribal conflict broke out close to the event, which caused it to be rescheduled to London.
The official website of Miss World has also reported that this year’s 28 days contest will happen in November and plans have been made to highly involve social media.

Miss World 2012 – Yu Wenxia, Miss World 2016 – Stephanie Del Valle and Miss World 2007 – Zhang Zilin were all present at the Press Conference.
