The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has announced that he plans to step down from his position when his current term of office expires in 2019.

The FA President said he has no intention of entrenching himself in the position, and would step down at the end of his third term.

He revealed his plans to the Graphic Sports in a recent interview in Accra.

“…I have no plans to entrench myself in the position as it is a privileged post; at a point, I would have to leave and there is no better time to do so than when the applause is very loud,” Nyantakyi told the state owned paper.

“ I don’t think I’m the only person capable of leading Ghana football. I can do so much, but not everything. Besides, I think we all must take a page from the wind of change blowing in FIFA on reforms which, among other things, place a limit on the term of presidents,” he added.

Nyantakyi has led Ghana football since 2005, with the senior national team, The Black Stars, qualifying to their first ever world cup under his tenure. Ghana has since qualified to three successive world cups, although we have still failed to break the Afcon drought. He has however, been criticised for overseeing the seeming collapse of local football in the country.
