Chinese illegal miners in Ghana, locally called Galamseyers, have come under government and media attack in the last few weeks–as their activities continue to destroy the lands and water bodies of locals.

Former Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region commenting on the issue has said Chinese involvement in ‘Galamsey’ is not only destroying water bodies but has waged a subtle war on Ghana’s ecosystem as well.

According to Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, these Chinese ‘Galamseyers’ riun every water body they get close to and also “eat all the frogs around the area”.

“…they have eaten all the frogs in this Country and there is no wonder we don’t hear frogs croaking anymore and that tells us we must take the fight against ‘galamsey’ seriously,” he said on UTV.
