It’s highly likely you suffered a blackout Wednesday night (I know I did), but it was even more severe than you probably anticipated.
According to officials of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDco), the blackout was caused by an unexplained surge last night and led to over 70% of the country being plunged into darkness.
Speaking to Kasapa Fm, Chief Executive Officer of the Company, William Amuna, said the surge, which could be due to a fault or a lighting strike, hit one of their main transmission lines and put out several generators, which resulted in the widespread loss of power.

GRIDco is currently working on restoring the lost power, Amuna said, adding that the autopsy into what exactly went wrong would be conducted once the lights are fully back on.
