A few days before Captain/Major Maxwell Mahama was murdered at Denkyire-Obuasi, another security personnel, a police officer-Lance Corporal Robert Ackah was killed my a police patrol team who mistook him for an armed robber on the Kintampo-Tamale road.
Though his death was not gruesome as Captain Mahama, he died protecting citizens who were under attack. Yet his family has just been handed 5000 GHS per reports.
“Senior Police officers accompanied by junior personnel in the Northern regional command on Friday June 9, 2017, donated an amount of GH5, 000 to the wife and child of a police officer shot dead by police patrol team in a case of mistaken identity,” Starr Fm reported.
“An insurer, Unique insurance company in the regional capital, Tamale, also donated same amount to the widow making GH¢10,000 for the tragedy that befell the family and the police service,” the website added.
You surely cannot compare the 5000 GHS given toLance Corporal Robert Ackah’s family to the 500,000 GHS Trust Fund that was set up for Captain Mahama’s family plus President Akufo Addo’s cash donation of 50,ooo GHS.
The huge gap in the payments the families of the servicemen have so far received supports a recent article written by a police man-Daniel Kwofie in which he stated among other things that Major Maxwell Mahama has been treated well but what has been given to his family capture the peak of hypocrisy and discrimination against security officers who die in line of duty.
