Lawyer Defending Alleged Major Mahama Killers Says Ghanaians Should Stop Calling Him A Devil

The lawyer representing the alleged killers of the late Major Maxwell Mahama, George Bernard Shaw, wants Ghanaians, especially the media, to stop demonising him for doing his job.

Bernard Shaw is unhappy with being labelled a ‘devil of a lawyer’ in some media discussions about the court case of the suspects.

Shaw said the insults are getting to him and he might quit representing the suspects if it doesn’t stop.

“The media should stop insulting me. Some of them even address me as “that devil of a lawyer” and use all sort of abusive words on my personality. I am on the brink of withdrawal” he said.

“I am not doing this for money; I am just a human rights lawyer. I am totally against mob justice. Stop trying the case in the media. The media should know better and educate the public”. he continued.

“I have not been granted access to my clients to know their side of the story and that of their health” he said, adding that it infringed on the human rights of his clients and should not be happening.

Shaw also added that the international community is watching how the case is being handled, therefore we should make sure the rule of law is followed, even in dealing with people suspected of such a heinous crime.
