Veteran actor Fred Amugi came terribly close to be named the new Ga Mantse in the 2000’s, but he turned down the offer.

It’s not everyday you get to turn down such a massive opportunity, but Amugi did it without blinking.

Speaking on Joy Fm’s Cosmopolitan Mix Tuesday, Amugi said he followed in his father’s footsteps in turning down the opportunity to be Ga Mantse.

“I just followed the footsteps of my dad. My dad dodged becoming Nii Amugi II because he said ‘your religious and moral social life get messed up when you become a chief’.” Amugi told Doreen Andoh.

“There are things if you were yourself, you wouldn’t want to do [but] you would be forced to do all those things so the best thing to do is stay aside,”

The Ga Mantse is the overlord of the Ga Mashie people, who mainly reside in the old British Accra.
