Asamoah Gyan Finally Reveals Why He Took That Penalty Against The USA

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed why he took that fateful penalty against the USA in our recent friendly international.
Gyan renounced playing penalties for Ghana in 2012 after missing a string of crucial penalties for the national team, citing his mum as the reason behind the decision.
However after five years of staying away from penalty duties, Gyan surprisingly picked up the ball against the US, then proceeded to miss as usual.
It has raised questions over why decided to take the pk after all this years, with Afia Schwarzenegger even tearing into him for it.
But Gyan, speaking to Joy Sports, has revealed why he finally decided to resume his penalty taking duties.
He said:

“Honestly, I was not the one to take the penalty kick against USA but I just decided to shoot it.
“I wanted to break that jinx around me that I have not been taking penalty [since 2012] but unfortunately, it did not happen the way I wanted it. But, I am a man and I needed to step up. Those who don’t step up are not recognised.

“I cannot guarantee [I will continue taking penalties] but I am focused on working hard for the nation to achieve success,”
