Nigerian jollof drew first blood in the never ending jollof wars as a Nigerian chef won a cook-off against a colleague Ghanaian chef.
The jollof festival held in Washington DC ended with the Nigerian chef, Atinuke Ogunsalu, being adjudged the winner by the judges.
She beat chefs from Ghana, Sierra Leone and Cameroon to pick up the ultimate.
According to reports, most of the crowd expected Ghana jollof to win, however, it turned out to be the other way round.
However, a Ghanaian at the event, Lucinda Mensah, claimed that Nigerian jollof only won because they had run out of Ghana Jollof for the judges to taste.
“There was no Ghana jollof to taste when it was time to judge as we sold all since people were buying it like crazy. If Ghana had just one teaspoonful of jollof for the judges to taste we could have easily won.” Africandream.net quoted her as saying.
Whether that was the case or not, Nigeria went home the winners and grab the bragging rights in the jollof battles.
