The family of a galamseyer killed by officers of the military during an anti-galamsey operation are demanding the same treatment for their killed son as Major Maxwell Mahama received from the state.
The 31 year old illegal miner was killed during the military’s ‘Operation Vanguard’ – an anti-galamsey military operation held at Obuasi-Wawase.
Officially, it is claimed a shootout occurred between the soldiers and the galamseyers and that a warning shot hit him and killed him. But the miners claim it was revenge from the soldiers for the death of Mahama.
In return, the family of the manner also wants similar privileges to what was handed to Mahama for his death.
“We believe they did that because of the Denkyira Obuasi incident, the military are over reacting. They should also take care of all the expenses for the funeral. President Akufo-Addo should treat our brother the same way Major Mahama was treated else they will face our wrath”, a family source told mynewsgh.
The funeral is reportedly asking for a Ghc 500,000 fund to cater for the miner’s dependants and family, as well as a state burial.
