Perhaps the biggest shock of this past Vodafone Ghana Music Awards was the exclusion of Kofi Kinaata, who arguably should have been artist of the year, from the biggest category of ‘Artist of the Year’.
It was an almost criminal omission, considering the year Kinaata had just put together and the fact that he had two mega hits competing for awards.
In a recent interview with Happy Fm, Martin King Arthur (Kinaata), commented on the issue.
According to him, he absolutely felt cheated when he wasn’t nominated for the night’s top award.
“I felt cheated in this year’s Ghana Music Awards because how can I be nominated for highlife song of the year and also songwriter of the year and not be nominated for the biggest category of the night which is the artist of the year? That was really disappointing.” he said.
The category was ultimately won by Joe Mettle, who became the first gospel star to take home the top prize at the annual music awards.
