blank
A devastating mudslide which hit Sierra Leone Monday has killed close to 300 and left thousands missing.
So far, 270 bodies has been recovered from the slide, which occurred following floods in the country’s capital of Freetown.
To counter overflowing at Freetown’s central morgue, a mass burial of the bodies recovered so far would be held later today (Tuesday).
Sierra Leone has suffered flooding in recent days, flooding which experts have described as the worst in Africa over the past two decades.
Early on Monday, a hillside in Regent, a town a few miles East of the capital, collapsed following the rains. The mudslide that followed submerged 100 houses, leading to the casualties recorded so far.
The search for bodies continues, with thousands more expected missing.
