Pop star Taylor Swift has been awarded $1 after winning a s*xual assault case against a DJ.
Swift sued DJ David Mueller for grabbing her butt during a photo taken in a concert in 2013.
Mueller initially sued Swift, claiming her s*xual assault allegations had led to his firing. But that case was thrown out, triggering Swift’s own counter suit.
She only asked for $1 in damages as a symbolic gesture – to prove the case was simply about letting Mueller be accountable for his actions.
The jury hearing the case in Colorado ruled in favour of Swift in the case.
“I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this.” Swift said in a statement released after the verdict.
“My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.” it added.
