The NDC Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti Region, Alex Adomako-Mensah, was accosted at gunpoint by armed robbers earlier this week whilst travelling to Kumawu.
The armed robbers made off with the MP’s bag which contained a cash sum of Ghc 5,ooo, his iPad, iPhone, parliamentary ID, a cheque book among others.
The MP was travelling from Kumasi to Kumawu late Monday when the incident occurred around Akotosu on the main Kumasi to Kumawu road.
Speaking to Daily Guide Tuesday, the MP confirmed the news of the robbery.
According to him, the robbers overtook his car near a sharp curve on the road and parked before him, forcing him to stop.
There were three of the robbers, two of whom came out armed with weapons and demanded the MP hand over whatever cash he had.
Adomako-Mensah said he was shaking but handed his bag over to them immediately. The bag contained GH¢5,000, iPad, iPhone, parliamentary ID card, cheque books, parliamentary stamps and other valuables.
The robbers made off in their car after taking the bag, and the MP said he drove to a nearby police barrier to report the crime.
