Close to a dozen deaths are being reported so far after a van ploughed through a crowd of people in Barcelona.
A white van reportedly run through crowds of people on Las Ramblas street, one of the busiest in the cosmopolitan Spanish city.
Driving a vehicle through crowds has become a frequent terror tactic in recent times and it seems it was employed here once again.
“I heard screams and a bit of a crash and then I just saw the crowd parting and this van going full pelt down the middle of the Ramblas, and I immediately knew that it was a terrorist attack or something like that.” a resident, Tom Gueller, told the BBC.
“I ran away, I mean I live near, I had to run back about 50 metres or so and go up to my flat and obviously see what’s happening on the road from my balcony.”
At the moment, estimates over the number of dead differ but it’s thought at least ten people lost their lives in the attack.
The Guardian reports that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack.
