A 6th minute goal from Liverpool’s marauding winger Mohammed Salah put bed to any World Cup hopes the Black Stars may have had due to Tuesday afternoon’s emphatic win over Congo.
Salah’s early goal handed Egypt a crucial victory which moves them back atop the Group, four points clear of the Black Stars with only two games to go.
A loss for the Egyptians in Kampala last week reinvigorated Ghana’s world cup hopes which seemed all but dead after picking up one point from two games. However, the Stars then squandered that golden opportunity by drawing 1-1 in Kumasi with Congo.
Despite winning the return leg 5-1, this win by the Pharaohs makes the Black Stars qualification hopes all but non-existent, with the Egyptians requiring a catastrophic collapse in their next game at home to Congo to hand the initiative back to the Stars.
