2017 Under Review: Major Tragic Incidents Which Occurred In Ghana

At the start of 2017, Ghanaians were full of hope, happiness and full of energy even though there were prophecies of doom by some Prophets which caused fear and panic to the general public.
As it is often said, what is written is written and only God knows the future and its tragic incidents. Below is a recap of some of the tragic incidents which occurred in Ghana.

Kintampo Waterfalls Disaster

This tragedy happened in March this year when some students of the Wenchi Methodist Senior School on an excursion at the tourist attraction site, met their untimely death. About Twenty (20) people mostly students lost their lives when falling trees crashed them when swimming in the Waterfall.

It was bizarre to the extent that seventeen died on the spot while the three remaining also died at the Kintampo Hospital.
Lynching To Death Of Major Adam Mahama

This is one of the most tragic and shocking incidents which majority of Ghanaians would never forget. This happened in May 2017 when Major Adam Mahama on an assignment at Denkyira Obuasi to fight against illegal mining, was mistaken for an armed robber and lynched to death by residents of the area.
The case is still under investigation by the Police as the suspects are still in police custody waiting for the final ruling by the court. 60 suspects were arrested but have been sieved to 20 suspects.
Professor Allotey’s Dead

Celebrated Mathematician, Professor Francis Kofi Ampenyin also died this year while on an Admission receiving treatment. His demise was confirmed by Sarah Ofei who is a family member. Professor Allotey was a Nuclear Physicist who developed the passion for science for reading numerous books on science being sold by his dad. Professor Allotey died at the age of 85.
The Gas Explosion At The Atomic Junction

This tragic incident happened in November and it claimed the lives of seven people leaving 134 others with various degrees of injuries. Mohammed Ashiley Yakubu, a cameraman at Net2 TV was among the 7 people who lost their lives in the explosion.

Mohammed Ashiley Yakubu wanting to film the incident fell from the Madina Atomic Junction flyover and died on the spot.
The Sudden Demise Of Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong–KABA

His death came as a shock to Ghanaians, he died on November, 18 after being rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. KABA as popularly called was the host of Asempa FM’s flagship political talk show–‘Ekosii Sen’.
KABA left behind a wife, Valentina and a 7-month-old baby.
