It is only in Ghana that a woman who looks like the combination of every market woman that ever lived and died will slap another woman because she looks like an onion seller to her. Hajia Fati, a woman who looks like she herself sells momone on a wholesale basis had the nerve to dole out some dirty slaps to Adom FM’s Ohemaa Sakyiwaa at the NPP Headquarters because according to the uncouth Hajia, Ohemaa went about her business so unprofessionally that she assumed she was an onion seller armed with a camera and therefore her assault against the female journalist was justified.
In her defence, she claimed the journalist did not introduce herself as being of the press only to start taking pictures of her without her permission so her best reaction was to assume an onion seller had broken loose from Makola and proceeded to put her in her proper place by issuing her with some hot slaps. Even the slap Cecelia Marfo gave Bra Sammy in the name of deliverance doesn’t come close. Journalists in the country are very displeased by this assault especially since it happened just a day after Ghana celebrated the World Press Freedom Day.
The behaviour of Hajia Fati has been widely condemned, with her party issuing a statement to dissociate themselves from her and her actions. “The NPP has noted with concern an alleged attack on a journalist by one of its supporters, Hajia Fati. We distance ourselves from the act and condemn it unreservedly”, said part of the statement released by the party’s Acting General Secretary, John Boadu. She was picked up by the police for assault on the journalist and has since expressed regret and apologised for her actions and promised never to repeat such actions.
Meanwhile she is yet to apologise to onion sellers and market women and Ghanaians as a whole for her offensive comments. Meanwhile, here are a few photos of the “slapee” Ohemaa Sakyiwaa in case you were wondering if Hajia was right in her assumptions.
