2016 VGMA Artist of the Year E.L has revealed that he often has to dumb down his rap so it can get to a level that the average Ghanaian can understand it.
E.L, in a recent interview, opined that often when he is writing he realizes he has to dumb down some portions of his rap to appeal to the masses, who obviously are not to the level of the high and mighty E.L.
E.L told Joy News’ MzGee: “I feel myself most of the time having to dumb it down and that’s not a bad thing because you have to consider what you want to achieve in terms of making music and expressing yourself to a wider audience and you have to think about how the wider audience can understand,” he said.
E.L said this dumbing down is why sometimes his lyrics might not seem so deep but if he wanted he could go as deep as anyone else.
“Most of the time, I am like ‘if I say it this way, them no go ‘barb’ [they won’t understand]’. I could go as deep as anybody,” he added.
