Menzgold Ghana Is Operating Legally In Ghana And Has Breached No Laws — Lawyer

The lawyer for Menzgold Ghana Limited has rubbished claims by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) that the license of Menzgold has been revoked.
Managing Director of the PMMC, Kwadwo Opare Hammond, had claimed that the body had revoked Menzgold’s licence, appearing to add legitimacy to the fight of Bank of Ghana against the company.
However, Kwame Akuffo, legal representative of Menzgold, has rubbished the claims.
He explained that in the past Menzgold used to get their licence from the PMMC but later on the body’s oversight mandate was revoked and Menzgold subsequently got an export licence from the Minerals Commission.
There was no point the PMMC revoked Menzgold’s licence and the company has always operated within the parameters of the law, he said.
“There has never been an occasion where the license issued to Menzgold Ghana Limited was revoked by any governmental entity.” Akuffo said on Joy Fm.
“The parties agreed that the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources shall nominate the PMMC as the government’s independent at-sale-laboratory. So, immediately this occurred in 2015, there was no need to renew the licence with the PMMC.
“Subsequently, we moved on to the Minerals Commission to obtain an export licence. There has never been a singular instance, or a plural instance or multiple instances where the PMMC revoked the licence of Menzgold or MenzBank Ghana Limited. It’s never occurred.” he said.
“So when Mr Opare Hammond does so, he’s engaged in economic defamation, he’s engaged in undermining the integrity and reputation of Menzgold.”
