Countryman Songo's Recently Awarded Honorary Doctorate Declared Fake By National Accreditation Board

‘Fire for Fire’ host Countryman Songo recently grabbed all the headlines after receiving a honorary doctorate degree from the Riches Theological College and Clergy Council.
Songo received his new honour at a lovely ceremony in Takoradi, the sports journalist rewarded for his fight for ‘humanity’.
It didn’t take long for the National Accreditation Board to rain on Songo’s parade, issuing a statement to announce that the institute is not accredited to hand out honorary degrees in the country.
According to the statement, the award is an example of a foreign institution giving a honour to a popular Ghanaian personality in an attempt to gain popularity and get unsuspecting Ghanaians to enrol in their programs.
However, the NIB insists the Riches Theological College and Clergy Council are not accredited and Ghanaians should remain wary of them.

“This is one of such instances where some foreign institutions confer such honorary degrees, particularly doctorate degrees on prominent personalities with intent to legitimize and popularize the operations of the institutions in Ghana, and thereby seeking to attract unsuspecting students to enroll them.” the statement said.
“It must be made clear that universities and other tertiary education institutions which are unaccredited by the relevant authorities in their home countries cannot be authorized to award any degree – regular or honorary in Ghana,” the statement added.
