In a society highly dominated by traditions, it’s always a must for people to pay their last respect to a dead body in an open casket ─be it the corpse of a prominent person or a “nobody”.

The casket is only closed when the deceased died through a gory accident where some vital parts of the body were missing or chopped off ─even with that, the family would try all possible means to display the corpse in an open casket for the people that matter to pay their last respect.

According to the late Kofi Annan’s wife and other reports, the Ghanaian former UN Secretary-General died peacefully in his sleep when news broke that he had passed on a few weeks ago.

The Ghanaian Diplomat who is said to have died peacefully in his sleep is currently lying in state at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) where a section of Ghanaians have had the opportunity to pay their last respect.

Prior to the laying in state of Kofi Annan, Ghanaians were all geared up to pay their last respect to their statesman but to their surprise, they rather paid their last respect to a closed casket ─without even seeing the hair of the late Kofi Annan.

Some have taken to social media to express their disappointments in the decision not to open the casket for them to see the body of their stateman.

One funny question some have asked is whether there is an air-conditioner in the casket since it has been closed all day. Some are also wondering if Kofi Annan’s body is truly in that closed casket.

Some have alleged that his body has already been buried in Switzerland but the casket is just a camouflage to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians.

Kofi Annan’s corpse is expected to be lying in that closed casket for three days!
