Ghanaian UK-based, Japhet Osei has been sentenced to five (5) years in prison for deliberately infecting two of his girlfriends with HIV in the United Kingdom.
According to reports, Japhet Osei, 23, had sex with two women without telling them he had HIV even though he knew he was HIV positive.
The women after engaging in sexual intercourse without with Japhet Osei without protection quickly fell sick and a test showed that Japhet had infected them with HIV.
Judge Angela Morris at the Reading Crown Court stated that Osei had “lied, lied and lied again” based on the cross-examination during the hearing of the case.
Judge Angela Morris pronouncing her judgement said;
“We are not living in the 1980s where everyone was ignorant of the effects of this disease and running around in a panic.
This is 30 years later. You were provided with expertise, assistance and the opportunity for treatment for the terrible disease you knew you carried and you refused it.
Despite your knowledge of your medical condition, you embarked on a sexual relationship. Your actions are totally inexcusable.”
Based on the “harrowing ordeal” each woman had physically and mentally gone through, Judge Angela Morris ordered thatJaphet Osei should be the “subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order” where he can only have sex with a woman on the condition that he tells her about his HIV status.
