Despite being separated for over a year now Elikem and Pokello are now commencing their battle for divorce in the courts of Zimbabwe, according to a report by a Zimbabwean news site.
Elikem has filed for divorce in Harare and Pokello has responded through her lawyers, announcing her intention to fight the suit.
In his declaration of divorce, Elikem claims that Pokello was jealous anytime he played romantic roles in movies and thus was harming his professional capabilities.
He also said he lost love and affection for her and thus their relationship has become ‘irreparable’.
“They (the couple) have not stayed together as husband and wife for the past year since September 2017,” Elikem, who is represented by Harare lawyer Rungano Mahuni of Mahuni Gidiri Law Chambers., argued in his declaration.
“…such is regarded by Kumordzie to be incompatible with the continuation of a normal marriage relationship. As a result, Kumordzie has lost love and affection to the extent that there are no prospects for reconciliation due to irretrievable differences between the parties.” the declaration added.
In her response to the suit, Pokello said: ” Be pleased to take note that the defendant has entered an appearance to defend the above action on this 28th day of September.”
Elikem in his notice agrees for Pokello to keep custody of their child and for him to be granted visitation rights, he also agrees to pay $500 monthly as ‘maintenance’.
It remains to be seen what the court would end up granting to Pokello before authorizing the divorce.
The couple met in the BBA house in 2013, getting married two years later.
