“I won’t preside over a tax, borrow and spend government”, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said this in 2016 during a political campaign speech.
Fast-forward in 2018, the same person who said the above says he will continue borrowing because everyone in this world borrows including the world superpowers, United States of America ─and this is what we term as Politricks!
Nana Addo during the build-up to the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections assured Ghanaians that he wasn’t going to preside over a tax, borrow and spend government as John Mahama and his NDC did.
“My approach is going to be different from that of John Mahama. It is not going to be tax, borrow and spend. My priority will be to reduce the cost of doing business to help small-scale enterprises grow, and to make the Ghanaian economy become globally competitive”, Nana Addo in 2016.
But the president after climbing the highest throne of the land has ‘shit’ on his own words by saying;
“Borrowing money is not aid, what President Xi Jinping offered is a $60 billion fund which African countries can assess, not as aid but loans. If you can produce a project which the Chinese think it is worth supporting you can have access to such money and you have to pay it back. We’ll borrow money, everybody borrows money”.
He said above at an entrepreneurship forum organised by the Tony Elumelo Foundation in Nigeria.
