Following demonstrations and massive destruction of properties by the students of the Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology (KNUST), the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) under the order of the government of Ghana closed down the school indefinitely.
A government delegation under the able leadership of the Minister of Education, Honourable Mathew Opoku Prempeh, disbanded the University Council and set up an interim council to see to the management of the school.
Civil society bodies and labour unions headed by UTAG and TEWU agitated and resisted the disbandment of the council so government backed off and the Asantehene, who also doubles as the Chancellor of the University, stepped in to solve the impasse.
After some back and forth, the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom and the greatest traditional ruler of our time, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has constituted a new Governing Council for the University and has also ordered that as a matter of urgency, the Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology should be re-opened immediately.
The King has spoken and all must listen.
